Annoyed that Canvas doesn’t support dark mode? Then this extension is for you! Now you can procrastinate on your assignments all night long, without straining your eyes!
This extension modifies all Canvas Instructure URLs in order to add dark mode support. It works for all organizations that use Canvas. This can be useful at night, for those who have vision impairment, or for people who just prefer dark mode to light mode.
As an additional benefit for UNC Charlotte students, UNCC’s WebAuth login URLs are also supported. This means that students at UNCC will have their login page (webauth.uncc.edu) also appear in dark mode.
UNC Charlotte users also have dark mode support for WebWork URLs. This requires access to such URL schemes (webwork.uncc.edu/*). Support for other organizations is coming soon.

Dark Mode for Canvas is not affiliated with Canvas and is an unofficial extension that injects custom CSS when the site is loaded in order to provide a dark theme.

I would like for this extension to include canvas.(schoolname).edu instead of canvas.(schoolname).com
It’s cool, but I uninstalled it after I got it working. On the dashboard it will not load future or past items which isn’t very cash money. Would love it if there was a way to fix that but unfortunately I don’t think that there is. I absolutely NEED to see the future items on the dashboard. To get the extension to work I did “(school).instructure.com” and it worked for me.
The dark mode is a HUGE lifesaver. However, when canvas is in List View. the bars are still white and blinding with the dark background. Card View is dark. It sucks to see how it works in some options but not all. Otherwise Great Dark Mode! a Huge Life saver!
Works perfectly, Cascadia WA
I love the concept, but the black text in the module was still black, making it unreadable.
Initially it didn’t work for my school. In order to get it to work, you will have to add your school’s LMS url manually to the manifest.json file located in the extension’s file directory (in my case this was learn.(schoolname).edu). You will then have to enable developer mode and load the extension manually.
When it comes to the extension working, it does a pretty good job at converting most of the site to a dark theme. Its not perfect however. The good thing is that if you know your way around a css file you can edit the one inside the extension directory and change anything you want about the site!
Works as advertised. Like many I wish I could disable certain elements or have it run on a timer, but as it seems it was made by a single developer (who I am extremely grateful for) it earns 5/5. There are improvements that can be made, but overall a sweet extension
Been wanting this for a while now. Glad I found this one. At first I thought it wasn’t working but you just have to refresh the page. 10/10 I can now have eyes once again.
Love this super easy to use. Download it, make sure the extension is enabled, reload your canvas page, done. Thanks so much for this as someone who works in education looking at a super bright Canvas page all day is really straining on the eyes
This seems more beneficial for students than teachers. It did not apply to the gradebook nor SpeedGrader. The color for upcoming assignments and assignments to grade was difficult to see (dark blue letters on black background). As stated by other reviewers, there is no toggle to turn it on and off.
amazing! good job
it is very well but i recommend dark mode for all sites but for this one it needs a on or off for the dark mode all sites you just click on it and reload and it goes in dark mode i prefer this one more plus it does all sites but this is a great extensions any way’s
I love this extension but it’s a bit hard to get to work I didn’t know where to enable it and took me a while. Maybe an off or on switch or like how to get started would help. For instance canvas.(school).edu didn’t work for me but (school).instructure.com worked for me. Something like that.
So dope, would just like to see the addition of an ON/OFF option
Exactly what you want it to be
omg thank you half of them just did one county but this one does multiple so it works!!! thanks you!!!!!!
this is the first time ive ever made a review on a google chrome extension and I just had to rate it 5 stars.
It’s great, but I have to remove it every time I want to turn it off. :/
You’re a beast thank you so much
Seems like a great extension, but it didn’t work for me, I suspect it is because my school uses Canvas but has a custom link, so it’s not canvas.net; is there a way to make it work? Thanks
This extension gives what it shows, but it looks absolutely disgusting. At least make it gray, not complete black.
I love it. and everyone I have showed it to is soooo happy. The only suggestion I would give is like a toggle button or something. sometimes I want it dark sometimes light. or sometimes I want ONLY the calendar dark and everything else to stay light. so having the options is cool. but I’m not even complaining because you solved an issue that canvas hasn’t solved in years (people have been asking for it on the forum for at LEAST two years that I’ve seen, that’s where I found the recommendation for this) thank you thank you
It actually worked! I’m constantly using canvas for school and a lot of the time its at night so the light strains my eyes. So this was an amazing extension.
very good
Great extension! Maybe a On/Off switch?
