The FileWave Inventory Client for Chrome OS reports device information from enterprise-enrolled Chromebooks to FileWave Inventory. FileWave administrators can then easily build simple or detailed custom queries within the FileWave Management Suite based on hardware and/or software information, such as the operating system, model, serial number, MAC address and much more.

Regarding the previous comments that the FileWave Inventory is a packet sniffer or implicitly somehow malicious – “packet sniffing” capability isn’t allowed by the ChromeOS security model unless you enter developer mode and weaken security of your own free will, so the comment isn’t founded in fact.
Additionally, the FileWave Inventory component uses public API’s provided by Google to obtain inventory information – there is no secrecy or backdoor here – just a useful tool to help increase the usefulness of the information all organisations care about for the devices they own.
Administrators have full control over the deployment of the extension and the data is securely transmitted back to the FileWave system, no security hole there.
And lastly – you have to be a FileWave Administrator to obtain access to the collected information, which isn’t something that any serious IT operations firm will do without trusting & vetting the employee in the first place.
FileWave Inventory for ChromeOS is secure, reliable and fully controlled by the end user.
