What is Word Replacer?
Word Replacer is a simple extension inspired by the popular ‘Cloud to Butt’. It does much more than that, allowing you to create entire lists of replacements and customize them to your tastes.
WORD REPLACER HAS RECENTLY UNDERGONE A HUGE UPDATE. And if you didn’t like it before, you should give it a second try now. Many annoyances don’t exist anymore, and the extension is much more powerful.
What is Word Replacer useful for?
That depends on you. I initially made the extension for myself, but the increasing number of reviews suggesting novel uses for Word Replacer may give you some insight.
Personally, I’d recommend starting with popular replacements such as the XKCD (http://xkcd.com/) ones. They make surfing the web more fun, even more so when you’re not expecting them!
How do I use it?
Detailed instructions can be read from the settings page. Please read carefully the user manual and the about page if there is anything that’s not intuitive enough. And if it isn’t, please tell me so that I can make it better.
As many others have said, under certain common circumstances (e.g., writing a facebook post) using this extension causes the cursor to jump to the start of the link at seemingly random intervals, making it impossible to type.
Crippled input boxes. Cursor jumps around when it’s enable, leading to garbled input.
Ever since installing this extension I’ve had a weird problem with text input fields. The cursor occasionally jumps back to the beginning of words like “This” and “Why” even when Word Replacer II is not supposed to be replacing words or a site. I’ve had to disable it completely.
This just made my day. Thank you!!
增加 wording 後,要按下 “Apply to selected” 才會生效。有點不太順手,但功能沒問題.
i cant find the manual
Had to uninstall because it makes cursor jump to the beginning of text type on multi-byte text inputs. Examples are Google Sheets formulas, Discord chat, and also portions of Facebook, e.g. https://www.facebook.com/events/birthdays
Perfect! Does exactly what it promises. You can export and import your rules, thus it enables you not just to store them, but also to create many rules e.g. by a script. (You can e.g. transliterate Arabic letters to Latin letters by inserting a Buckwalter transliteration table in the expected format.)
This extension has been pretty great! One feature it’s currently lacking that would really help would be a way to have certain replacements only happen on certain web domains. A few times I’ve wanted to replace a word when reading a translated story, but not wanted that word to be translated elsewhere.
Would be a five star considering the features, but sadly it makes some site load extremely slowly. So I’ve since used ReplaceR instead, which although has fewer features, but works as intended and does not slow down any website
This worked solidly for me for months until recently, when it stopped working on almost every website I visited. There hasn’t been any updates in months, so it’s likely a Chrome issue, so your mileage may vary. But for the months it worked, it was very consistent and the customization options were very nice.
I feel bad leaving this review because I have had this extension for a long time now. But sometimes in 2020 it started messing up certain sites. On sites like Facebook I can’t type anything because the letters move all over the place. For example if I type “Mary had a little lam, its fleece was white as snow”, it would end up “ryhad a little Ma mb it’s white as snow! fleecewas” Not sure what is going on but its unusable now.
Don’t know if it changed since people left reviews but The UI is super easy and it works! I wish there was a ‘Don’t replace if part of a word’ button on the simple replacement mode though.
Works pretty fast, no noticeable delay and it even supports RegEx rules. Honestly I couldn’t ask for more
Pretty good! But it’s kinda finiky. I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it to get it to work, my advice is don’t change any of the settings, just use the thing/column/commands on the left, worked for me.
It works perfectly, but it does mess up stuff sometimes in some text fields, such as moving the cursor to the beginning when I press backspace.
It could improve by providing real-time text replacement. At present, it could only replace text at the initial page load but will not replace text loaded later during user interaction such as those loaded asynchronously. In future versions, there could be the option to group text entries by webpage or domain and have each group take effect only within those websites.
The only problem I had is that it glitched out my twitter scrolling when I had bee movie replaced with the bee movies entire script, which is kind of on me. Wonderful piece of software and has confused and amused many people I’ve sent out of context screenshots of the effects to
Keeps saying “Unrecognized format!” and nothing else. What a waste of time this was
1000개 정도 되니 속도가 매우 느려져요. 개선 방법 없나요?
아니면, a/b 두 개로 나눠서 선택 할수 있으면 좋을 것 같아요.
all(heavy) or light
Using it to replace the words “length” and “smirks” on Wattpad because people love using those nasty words
Works prefectly, BUT creates a major bug with somes sites using autocompletion schemes (Google Sheets, Facebook Messenger) causing the cursor to be constantly moved back at the beginning of the text field. Really annoying.
great for schools
It brakes certain pages. For example, I can’t use Google Image Search 🙁
idea is neat but this kind of extension does not allow per website basis? if you have 1 word replacement for 1 site while another word for another site, this extension can’t do that. it’ll apply both words for both site.
