See personalized, random photos in your new tabs linked to your Google Photos account, getting your best memories in front of you throughout the day!
Every time you open a new tab you’ll be shown a random photo from your Google Photos account.
You can choose which albums you want to see and hide to avoid embarrassing content from popping up unexpectedly. You can also temporarily disable personalization for presentations or public spaces.
This product is not made by Google and has no official association with Google Photos.
Hope you enjoy!

New in version 0.21
Google has sunset the Picasa photos API so this switches everything over to Google Photos. This should resolve any reported issues around seeing a constant “loading” screen, or not being able to update album lists.
For the most part the experience should be the same, but due to the changes necessary this will require reconnecting your account once you upgrade, and you’ll lose your local configuration. Sorry about that!
Other minor changes:
– Photo quality should automatically update based on your browser window size
– All album links now take you straight to Google Photos instead of Picasa
– Fixes a bug where the extension stopped working if you had a very large number of albums and photos
– Prevent creating duplicate history entries
This is a pre-release for a major upgrade towards what I’ll eventually call version 1.0.
————————
New in version 0.20
– History mode! Now scroll through the last 10 photos you’ve seen.
————————

– Options UI overhaul
————————
New in version 0.18
– bug fixes when using the extension on multiple devices
————————
New in version 0.17
– prevent common video thumbnail types from showing up
– add rate and donate buttons
————————
New in version 0.16
– add ability to hide/show album info
– add compact controls mode
– fix a bug causing extension to break after photos are removed from albums
————————
New in version 0.15
– add ability to easily copy / save images using the browser’s controls
————————
New in version 0.14:
– disable personalized photos temporarily from config page
– faster image loading when personalization is disabled / not setup
– better algorithm for choosing what photo to display
Highly recommend. Photos New Tab is a great way to bring a smile to my day at work, by reminding me of a good memory every time I open a new tab on my browser. I appreciate being able to selectively pick which Google Photos albums to show.
good
Thank you
I have been frustrated for quite a while that I had to just choose one picture as a background. This app has been a blessing. Keep up the hard work!!
Buena, se ven tus fotos en una nueva pestaña.
I couldn’t use this extension first, because something was changed at Googles side and the extension didn’t work. I asked for support and the developer fixed it, so now I can use the extension and I love it! Seeing all the long forgotten photos from my albums is awesome.
Hooray! No more getting stuck on “getting list of albums”. Google broke it, but Cory fixed it. Thanks for your great extension, Cory!!!!
Doesn’t load albums! Infinite loop.
it may be just me , but i can not get my pics off the screen , when i get on here they are here
Hey Cory, is this open source? If so, I’d love to contribute. There’s a couple of recommendations I’d like to make, if I may.
0. Can you please use the google Photo API instead of the strange “get.google.com/albumarchive” that I’ve never heard of before and doesn’t accurately reflect my google photos library.
1. The contain option would be nice if it looked a little more polished… reflective photo option, white backdrop, etc
2. Options to filter images shown by location, time, keyword, etc…
3. A thumbnail google map showing where the image was taken
Otherwise I love it! One of my favorite extensions. Again, would love to be able to contribute. Thanks!
P.S. I found https://github.com/czue/chrome-google-photos in hope but the repo was empty!
Sweet extension, exactly what I was looking for! I love the ability to be able to sign-in to a different Google account than the one I’m currently signed-in to Chrome as.
Simple, perfect. Love seeing old photos pop up.
Really cool concept and works great. Would love to have the option to “fit” the image to the tab by cropping or zooming.
This is my new favorite Google extension! I love getting surprised by old photos every time I open a new tab. If possible, I’d second the idea to prevent video stills from popping up, but I’d also be interested in seeing you collaborate with Tab for a Cause! I really like the idea behind that one, too, but if I were able to use that with random images from my Google photos like you’ve done here, that would be the dream. But, of course, above all else, thank you for making this!
I love seeing glimpses of photos that I otherwise would probably never see again!
I’ve been waiting for someone to create an extension that does this for ages. It works great!
I’d love to see some customization options, especially: filtering (e.g. orientation, excluding videos/animations), aspect ratio/fill screen options, and ability to show/hide the album name/date.
Love it! So glad you can choose which albums are used. Developer is very responsive as well.
Great to have see those random photo’s that are just languishing in the cloud.
I might be biased since I’m the author, but I love this extension! Using it brightens my day constantly.
