It uses the Audio API and a Text-To-Speech service to read website text on click on it.
Additionaly, it enhances contrast of images using Canvas post-processing (thanks to Pixastic library, under Mozilla Public Licence).
To toggle reader on/off click to speaker icon on extensions toolbar. If turned on you need to click on text paragraph and wait to audio.
This extension will use build in (in Chrome) speech engine so it may not be available in your native language.
Can’t figure out how to make it work
Nie działa
I think it should give us a choise for “not to read quotation mark and reference numbers”. Because if there are a lot quotation mark or reference numbers, the sentence is broken.
Doesn’t do anything at all for me, no idea how to get it to work. Yes I restarted Chrome.
It didn’t work while I had it added to chrome, and then after I removed it, it was working and I couldn’t turn it off.
So far it only works for my windows 10 hp stream
….
Awesome …but even after choosing female sound its giving male .
Works perfectly
This extension works fine, but you have to restart Chrome to use it, once it is installed. Then switch it on, and click somewhere in the page. The reader will either read everything or just the paragraph that you select. The text that is to be read is underlined.
I would like to see this feature added – read everything below the point at which you click. Also, it would be nice to see some options list added that would allow you to add html5 tags that you don’t want read, like lists or code items etc.
If the code is publicly accessibly, ie open source, at github, then I would be happy to contribute.
It looks like a great extension, but how do you make it work? I installed it, went to a Google Doc, and it doesn’t do anything. Deleting.
Can’t get it to work at all no matter what I try.
I am using to improve my English reading web news at the same time I listen to. At the moment works fine.
It does not reads pdfs, and only reads the line you click on so if you’re reading you got to click on every single line which I assume would get annoying. Also it says “quotation mark” when reading a quote
doesnt work at all
I cant figure out how to uninstall it and it doesn’t read everything.
Using Google Chrome could not get it to work …
I can’t get it to work. I press the button and click around the screen but nothing happens. I even tried highlighting the text and nothing happened…??
Doesn’t work..
It didn’t really work. I couldn’t figure out how to use it (and I’m usually pretty smart about these things). I navigated to three different websites, and it automatically started reading once. No luck getting it to work (automatically or manually) on the other two sites.
Breaks some websites so that forms don’t show up
Doesn’t work
I use this extension to read articles for my school work. The reader doesn’t read everything though. It does not read my online text books, which is unfortunate, and also does not read pdf documents. I’m not sure where to find something that would read these types of online papers.
it works, but causes css display issues. Nice to use when you’re too lazy to read an article yourself. 🙂
Could not make it work
