Please note that this extension is now in maintenance mode; no new additions will be made moving forward.
The Chrome Screen reader extension is a showcase of a fully featured screen reader for the web built using only web technologies such as html and javascript. This extension specifically works within the Chrome browser to read content aloud. For more comprehensive solutions, we recommend the use of full system screen readers like ChromeVox on Chrome OS, VoiceOver on Mac, JAWS, NVDA or Narrator on Windows, etc.
By installing this extension, you agree to the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy at https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/.
Finally took the time to figure out how to enable/disable ChromeVox via keyboard shortcuts.
If you’re wondering, it’s: ChromeVox+A>A
However, ChromeVox doesn’t always respond to keyboard commands.
App lỗi, chỉ hỗ trợ đọc tiếng anh không có đọc tiếng việt, không tắt được tự mở. tốn cpu và ram
Unclear how to make it work. Does not seem to work. Like most extensions instructions are non existent.
Güzel ama Türkçe yok.
It was okay but I did not like the fact that it did not easily work with Google Docs. I needed it so I could write down what I typed without looking up and down but, for some reason, it glitches out and also does not show that orange box. It was also quite annoying and I could not disable it. It also kept scrolling my page when I selected something. I don’t really recommend it. 🙁
It will cause the chrome setting pages to crash.
If in one time are opened two browser windows, two users (two different users profiles), screen reader work and read text from both windows.
In one window addon is disabled.
In second browser window addon is enabled.
But addon work on both browser windows.
This makes work difficult.
Its okayish till few weeks back, not very reliable so I particularly don’t like it very much, its been some weeks now Chrome vox says its crashed hence cant use this extension to test my web app.I have tried to remove and then freshly add the extension, Reloading the extension is also of no use, is there any solution to this bug?
Also can someone recommend some alternative testing tool for accessibility of website? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Oh dear God, please provide a way to shut this thing up!!!!! Either a key combo, or option. This is just horrid!!!! Reinstalled this just so I could give it one star!
Just need to make it easier to enable/disabled, but overall I like it!
As a developer it has been helpful for testing ADA compliance, but recently it has been crashing when enabling it and I have not found a way to get it to run normally.
Whilst I’m sure this is better than nothing, I think it’s got a way to go and the visually impaired are likely best sticking to the system wide options.. unfortunately for Linux there aren’t any I could recommend.
As a developer, I’m using ChromeVox to test our WebApps for screen reader compatibility, and it’s reasonable for that use case.
There are a few bugs however, you have to disable it entirely (as in disable the plugin, not just temporarily turn it off with the shortcut keys) to get any of the chrome settings screens to display correctly and sometimes it glitches out and will keep reading things out in an endless loop.
There are a few things I would like to change, like enabling the extension but turning off screen reader if I am not in permanent need. That said it works a charm, so long as punctuation is used and the correct ARIA, markup etc.
Hats off to the people that made this. I think I owe them a pint if I ever meet any of them.
HORRIBLE! This REALLY needs a way to disable/enable. Completely broken on several sites, even entering in THIS review in a textfield is a mess.
PLEASE FIX.
Although useful, the app is rather annoying as there is no way to stop it from reading. It also pauses for way too long at the punctuation marks, and therefore does not sound natural. The fact that you can select a section of the screen for it read is great. I would give it five stars if they could add a stop and start button and allow the user to set the read speed.
This desperately needs a toggle on/off option from the extension icon… god otherwise
Что случилось с программой? После последнего обновления программа перестала читать предложения и слова при перемещении курсора в гугл документах! Это была единственная возможность самостоятельного редактирования текста в гугл документах для СЛЕПЫХ людей!
Unable to use. Upon installation it immediately crashed. Restart it, immediate crash again. Running on Version 83.0.4103.116 (Developer Build) built on Debian bullseye/sid, running on Debian bullseye/sid (64-bit) Pop!_OS 20.04. Your Mileage may Vary.
Some polishing needed. For example. The end of a paragraph, regardless of punctuation should mandate a breath. If needed inject a period or suitable punctuation in.
dl -> dt + dd does not take a breath unless I punctuate, what might be a single-word `dt`
Punctuation is important, but lack of it from an author, should not result in punishing a user.
The controls are also a thing to behold, needing to wrap several elements in in order to have the whole thing readable on-click.
ty Dylan Landry for explaining the > hotkey symbol, it turns out though I tried changing to the sympler “flat” presets they weren’t working, but classic does. Shift+Alt is Windows default “ChromeVox” key, doesn’t let me change/customize it (another person posted on macs it’s not set to anything by default),
— So: Hold “CV” and press A twice in a row, it shuts up and the table cell highlighting goes away!
Türkçe dil desteği yok eklenirse çok iyi olur. Turkish language support please.
Annoying app, Not very good text to speech, hard mechanics to adjust text speed, terrible app
I can’t get it to stop talking without removing it.
