IE Tab exactly emulates Internet Explorer, and enables you to test your web pages with different versions of IE (IE7 – IE11)

1. Why do I have to install ietabhelper.exe?
IE Tab uses the Internet Explorer rendering engine. This rendering engine can’t be directly accessed from a Chrome extension, so we need a helper process to talk between the Chrome extension and the rendering engine.
2. Did IE Tab always require this extra program?
No. Chrome used to support a technology called NPAPI (the Netscape Plugin API) which allowed extensions to access local computer resources. IE Tab used to use that functionality to access the Internet Explorer rendering engine. But Chrome removed NPAPI support, so we were forced to implement a new solution, and that solution requires a separate helper executable. From a technical standpoint, the only real change is that our code moved from an NPAPI .DLL file to a helper .EXE file.
3. Is the IE Tab Helper application safe?
Absolutely! IE Tab has always used native code, and we have always treated the security of our 2+ million users very seriously. So you can rest assured that this helper executable is secure and trustworthy.

An essential extension because I’m still managing legacy hardware with http configuration interfaces that only work with IE. As other browsers have now deprecated old SSL types and deny JNLP, making managing these devices impossible otherwise.

I have a range of CCTV cameras and a DVR that prefer IE or used Flash. Obviously flash has been disabled and IE is not modern and I guess one day will have its plug pulled as well. Anway! I thought I would try this extension and once I had added part of the URI in Options so it was triggered it was perfectly. A huge relief as I can now use Brave with CCTV system again.

After scouring the internet looking for a solution, this extension finally allowed me to view my HIKVISION Security Cameras. But I must say goodbye, for i’ve found a better alternative.
For those who don’t know, Edge Chromium has an option to reload a webpage in Internet Explorer Mode: Settings-Default Browser-Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer Mode.
Works great for pages that aren’t supported by Chrome. Definitely a time saver!

I have been using IE Tab for some time time now and its a class APP – pun intended. I have used it to view older cctv camera systems no longer supported in IE or EDGE. Also I may have discovered a workaround for IE Tab where Flash still needed in online applications! Please continue to support this invaluable extension as I can see many uses for it including in Digital Preservation where access to archived websites may require older versions of IE. Brilliant work.

Terrible. Didn’t work on Mac OS Big Sur. Added the IE tab because the website I was on needed IE to get the full features. Downloaded the ActiveX too, but the website I was on said it STILL wasn’t connecting, when it actually works on Chrome and Safari (with limited features though).
Should have mentioned that it was a trial. It only lasted me a few hours, while I was trying to figure out how to fix the issue above.
Totally useless.
