The #1 downloaded Gmail extension for blocking read receipts and other email tracking pixels.
Ugly Email is an open-source Gmail extension for identifying and blocking email trackers.
Ugly Email scans through your inbox and looks for emails containing tracking pixels. Tracked emails are labeled with an eyeball icon, and the tracking pixel is blocked.
All of the Ugly Email data is stored on your browser’s IndexDB storage locally. We do not track, transfer, or store any of your information.
Didn’t work.
I don’t know why it didn’t work. I installed it on Chrome, I checked my gmail. I know I’ve got emails/spam with trackers in there, but nothing was flagged. I closed and reopened Chrome. Nothing. I also installed Trocker and the same non-result. I know that the advertising emails from one place is definitely tracking me because when I don’t open their emails, they email me about not opening them. But even though there’s an advertising email in my inbox, nothing is flagged.
I’m very disappointed, and have uninstalled.
Love this plugin, seems to have stopped working recently (1/22/21).
Great extension, however, it stopped working with a recent Chrome or Mac OS release (12/2020).
Works OK, but the UglyEmail icon is too big for Compact View in GMail, so it causes line heights to increase whenever the icon is displayed – a pain in the butt when trying to click on a message halfway down the screen.
Plugin disabled in order to conserve my sanity.
I do wish that there were an option to either not display the icon or display a less intrusively sized icon.
Mind-blowing!
good and effective
It slows down the inbox when enabled.
Love the concept, unfortunately just doesn’t work.
This is very useful! I appreciate getting my privacy back.
The only issue I have is that when I click on an email action (e.g., delete as the little trash can) on the home screen, the email is opened instead. Not a big issue because I can delete the email inside it, but still kind of strange this extension breaks that feature.
Also, a question. GMass is implementing better tracking pixels (https://www.gmass.co/blog/tracking-pixel-blockers/). How are you going to block those?
Does not work
I used to have to weed out from 16 to 22 pieces of suspect mail daily. That’s in the past. At first I wondered if somehow my Secure ware (ESET Security suite) was doing it but no, when I shut off Ugly Mail to test, the pile of…”stuff” was back. Ugly Email was filtering out the stuff that was perhaps less than honest…
So I’m happy. I have less garbage to throw out daily and have a much smaller Email stack to sort through every day. No, Ugly Email isn’t perfect, but it sure comes close.
I have been using this one for 2 years. Quite good! I really hate people those who track email reading, that is against privacy.
Not working in Catalan language. It seems that there is a bug related with the encoding. I had to change the Language settings of Gmail to English to make it work, but still some requests give errors as I saw in Chrome Developer Tools
Tested this today using mixmax tracking service, works well for gmail..
as for Outlook.com users there’s another extension called “Trocker” it works for both gmail and outlook
effecient in blocking tracking but doesn’t show which email is being blocked or what service did they use.
I had to disable ugly mail to make trocker work since it seems to block it
Hi team, great extension – I very dislike mail trackers.
There seems to be a little bug; the snooze button doesn’t work for email rows with the uglymail symbol?
Can’t detect many mail trackers and it often gives false-alarms.
Funciona perfeitamente
Gmail inbox formatting is incorrectly displayed when Ugly Mail extension is enabled. Disabling extension until issue is fixed.
nice
This extension completely ruins the formatting on my gmail inbox. Subject lines are unreadable.
Something seems to have changed with the July 2018 update that causes my gmail inbox to be formatted incorrectly. Everything gets pushed over to the left hand side of the screen. Disabling this addon solves the issue/
When enabled, this extension appears to cause right-clicks to delay about 20 seconds. In the console, there are several hundred errors along the lines of “Could not send the message “log”, error: RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded”.
When I try and contact, there is only a privacy page that says “contact us”, but no way to actually make contact. I am somewhat concerned by this and have disabled the extension for now, which has also made right-click work again.
Does Ugly Email work for Google’s Inbox e-mail program or does it only work for Gmail?
I have used this for a long time now and find it very helpful, especially at this time when there are so many companies promoting seminars, symposia and political agendas.
Wish I could use it in inbox as well
